Safety Gear

Safety is always the first priority at Learning Curves, and this starts by adequately protecting yourself from possible physical harm. Motorcycling can never be completely risk free, but wearing adequate or, preferably, motorcycling-specific safety gear can greatly reduce the potential for injury.

All participants in our courses must wear adequate safety equipment. Armoured motorcycle gear and a full-face helmet are highly recommended. At a minimum, we require a DOT or SNELL-approved helmet, tough boots that come above the ankle, leather gloves that cover the wrist, a sturdy jacket, and leather or denim pants. All materials should be leather, denim or reinforced canvas and provide full coverage without rips, tears, or exposed skin.

We are unable to rent or provide safety equipment at this time.

Helmet

At a minimum you need a DOT or SNELL approved helmet. A full face helmet is preferred.
Our insurance providers require that all students wear a helmet during our courses, regardless of exemptions in the Highway Traffic Act.

Gloves

Sturdy, full coverage of your wrists and fingers in leather or specialty materials is required. Shop for reinforcement armour in a weight suitable for the worst weather you are likely to meet.

Boots

Tough boots that provide ankle protection are a minimum requirement. Elasticized ankle coverings, as found on Chelsea or Blundstone boots, are not acceptable. Steel-toed boots are strongly discouraged as they can interfere with gear shifting.

Jacket

A full denim or leather jacket that provides full coverage of your arms and torso is a minimum requirement - no rips or tears! Consider a vented armoured motorcycle jacket.

Pants

Full length denim pants without rips or tears are a minimum requirement. Armoured or leather motorcycling pants are ideal.
